Worship Notes for Lent

Wednesday Night Lenten Program

Wednesday Night Soup Suppers

* Holy Week Schedule *

     Worship Notes for Lent

In the forty-day season of Lent, there are some worship changes you will see and hear. First, remember to respond, "And with thy Spirit" and the other Rite I responses. We have switched to Rite I, for its more penitential prayers and formal language. On Sundays, the Psalm and much of the service music is said, not sung, to be a little more solemn and simple. As usual, we forgo saying "All--ia" until the Easter Vigil. The color changes from green to purple, the color solemn preparation. The crosses are veiled symbolizing the shadows of betrayal, trial, suffering, and death. The usual dismissal (May the Blessing of God.) have changed to a solemn prayer.

     Wednesday Night Lenten Program - Beginning February 13th

Lent and God’s New Creation

Beginning Wednesday evening, February 13th and continuing through March 12th Fr. Keith will offer a Lenten program that will explore new ways to experience Lent. Instead of focusing on traditional Lenten disciplines such as giving up things that we like (chocolate, coffee, etc.), Keith will look at how the church has understood Lent and repentance as part of our participation with God’s new creation in Jesus Christ.

Weekly topics will include:

  • Legalism and the New Creation—an Overview of Galatians

  • The Church’s Developing Understanding of Repentance and Lent

  • Repentance: Understanding Ourselves in God’s Presence

  • How to Live Together as a Community of Repentance

  • Practices to Explore/Continue Beyond Lent

There will be childcare for younger children and a supervised, seasonally appropriate video for older children.
