Rector’s
Forum begins January 6: Serious Answers to Hard Questions
Have you wondered about the relationship between religion and science,
the existence of evil, other religions, and extra-biblical books? These
obstacle-to-faith issues are worth discussing, and we’ll do just that
with the help of ten noted theologians for the next ten weeks. Join us
Sundays at 9:30 in Burtenshaw Hall.

JAM! and
Youth Sunday School Restart on Sunday, January 6th
For this rotation of JAM!,
we will focus on Holy Communion— what it means in the tradition of the
Episcopal Church and what it means for each of us as we live our faith
as members of the Body of Christ. The Youth Christian Education will
focus on the gifts we have received from God and sharing them with
others.

Youth Confirmation Class
Youth interested in being confirmed will have a class offered Sunday
mornings at 9:30 beginning January 20. This class runs through May with
confirmation on June 8, 2008. Sign-up sheet in the narthex..

January
Bible Study on Colossians starts this week
Join us Tuesday mornings at
9:30 or Wednesdays at 7:30 PM in the Library on this four week study
(before Lent begins)—beginning January 8th and 9th respectively. We’ll
be using Bishop Tom Wright’s book,
Paul
for Everyone: The Prison Letters (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians,
and Philemon). Books are $15 and we’ll likely use them for a
study of Ephesians at a later time this year. Please register in the
narthex.

Lenten
Parish Retreat to Sewanee for Reflection and Prayer
We are planning to join others from
around the Southeast on a retreat weekend February 15-17th at St. Mary’s
in Sewanee, Tennessee. This is the 2nd weekend in Lent and the topic of
the retreat, “When Israel Came Out of Egypt: Practical Help for Lent” is
very apropos. The presenter is Bishop John Bauerschmidt of the
Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee. The residential fee is $190 per

in serving the chalice or helping as an usher?
Both are important
ministries of hospitality and service. (To be a chalice bearer, one
must be a confirmed Episcopalian.) Please sign up in the narthex or on
line if interested, and if you have questions, see Fr. Rob. A brief
training for each will be held in January, and serving could start as
early as February.

St.
Aidan’s Ski Weekend 2008
February 15-18 2008 –
depart from St. Aidan’s at 11:00 AM. Where: Beckley, West Virginia;
you can ski, snowboard, go tubing, or all three! The cost is $280
(after fundraising) per person. This includes: Food for both ski days;
Lift tickets; Equipment
Rentals (Ski, Snowboards, & Snowblading only); Lodging for three nights;
Car rentals and gas.
Deadline - Youth
have until January 23 to RSVP. Feb. 6th: forms and payment due If you
plan to participate in the ski trip, you must participate in the
fundraising and raise at least $100 (per participant) and one community
service activity. See Katie or Bethany for details.
Rent-a-Youth
Do you have a yard full of
leaves that never seem to get raked? How does a night away from the
kids and/or dogs sound? Have no fear:
rent the youth is here!! This fund raiser helps defray ski
trip costs. There is a minimum of $8.00 per hour per youth.

Altar
Flowers / Tabernacle Light in 2008
If you would like to donate
altar flowers or have the tabernacle light candle burn for one week in
honor of someone, please sign up in the binder in the narthex. You will
be able to list who the donation is from, who it is to, and any
dedication notes (i.e., in memory of, in thanksgiving for, etc.) or
special requests (type of flower, color, etc.) on the form in the
binder. The cost for altar flower donations is 45.00, and there can be
two donations per Sunday (each for $45). The tabernacle light donation
is $10. Please be sure to make a note on the memo portion of your check
stating the date and if donation is for altar flowers or the tabernacle
light.

Honduras
Missionary Speaking
Suzy McCall, an Episcopal
missionary in Honduras and Field Director of LAMB Institute there, will
speak about her mission to aid and educate abandoned children in
Tegucigalpa. Hear how members of St. Aidan's, St. David's, and St's.
Peter and Paul churches, as well as the rest of the Marietta
Convocation, are supporting this amazing ministry. Learn how you too
can support this mission with prayers, participation, and financial
support.

the 10:30 service in the library of Burtenshaw Hall for a light lunch
