Worship Changes
In the forty-day season
of Lent, there are some worship changes you will see and hear.
First, remember to respond, "And with thy Spirit" and the other Rite I
responses. We have switched to Rite I, for its more penitential
prayers and formal language. On Sundays, the Psalm and much of
the service music is said, not sung, to be a little more solemn and
simple. As usual, we forgo saying "All--ia" until the Easter
Vigil. The color changes from green to purple, the color solemn
preparation. The crosses are veiled symbolizing the shadows of
betrayal, trial, suffering, and death. The usual dismissal (May
the Blessing of God.) have changed to a solemn prayer.

Journey
of Faith: Lenten Devotionals and Meditations
A limited supply
of "Journey of Faith: Lenten Devotionals and Meditations," written by
our own St. Aidan church members, is available in the narthex.
You can also download a copy from the St. Aidan's website at www.staidans.org.
From the main page, click on the 'Lenten Calendar' icon, and you will
be directed to the Lenten Schedule page and other materials. Many
thanks to all who contributed to make this booklet a reality.

Lenten Altar Hangings
and Vestments
We are thankful for our
new Lenten altar hangings and vestments! Thanks to Bobbe Frank, Aniela
Jablonski, Nancy Langdon, and Harmony Kiser, our resident sewers, this
new Lenten array made ready for Sunday. And thanks to those who made
donations towards it. Bishop Whitmore will bless them next Sunday. The
cross on the frontal and the chasuble (worn by the celebrant) is a
Jerusalem cross - so that we can remember in Lent Jesus’s journey to and
trial in Jerusalem.

Do You Remember Lenten Mite
Boxes?
A Mite Box is a small box
used by families or individuals for special collections. Mite
Boxes are often distributed during Lent as a symbol of our willingness
to give what we have for the care of others. The word "mite"
refers to a small offering or gift. (See the Parable of the Widow's Mite
in Luke 21.) We will distribute the boxes during Sunday School
next Sunday, February 28. You can also pick up a box from the narthex
anytime during Lent. The Mite Boxes are made available to the
congregation through Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). Funds
collected will be donated to NetsForLife, a partner of ERD
dedicated to eradicating malaria through the distribution of mosquito
nets.

Introducing
NFCC Food Pantry "Item of the Month"
St. Aidan's has long
supported North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) with annual
Brown Bag food drives and assorted food donations. Now we'll be
collecting food donations based on specific needs identified by NFCC.
This will help balance the inventory in the NFCC Food Panty, so they
don't end up with tons of rice and no peanut butter, for example.
The "Item of the Month" will be listed in Parish Matters and eNews each
week. To donate, just purchase the "Item of the Month" during your
regular grocery shopping, and drop it in the box in the Narthex at any
time during the month. The NFCC Food Pantry "Item of the
Month" for February is: Cereal & Dry Milk.

Buildings and Grounds Meeting
If you are involved in
Buildings and Grounds at St. Aidan's or would like to be, please join us
for a planning meeting in Burtenshaw Hall after the 11:00 am service
this Sunday,
February 21st. We'll be discussing the myriad of activities
involved with keeping the buildings and grounds of St. Aidan's
functional and welcoming to all parishioners and visitors, and will also
be soliciting help in several areas including landscaping, storage area
cleanup and organization, restroom improvements, and the St. Aidans
Green
Team.

Gluten Free Wafers
At the request of a few
parishioners, we now have gluten free wafers. Any who wish to receive
them, please receive communion at the prayer station to the right of the
altar area (where the healing station often is). Note: it is
not a healing station unless we’ve used the litany for healing, which is
once every other month. Family members who do not need gluten free
wafers but who want to receive communion with a family member who does
may also receive at the gluten free station.

Pastoral
Care Notes
Fr. Rob and
Harmony Kiser (our vestry person for Pastoral Care) have formed a
pastoral care group of nearly 20 parishioners whose mission it is to
serve those of St. Aidan’s in need. With nearly 900 people who call St.
Aidan’s home, there are many ways to take care of each other - but only
if we know about them. So please call the church or speak to Fr. Rob or
Harmony if you:
-
If someone you know is
shut-in and would like a visit, a call, or a card;
-
If a prepared meal would
be a help if you recovering from illness or have a special need or
situation
-
If you or a parishioner
you know could use a ride to church or to an appointment;
-
If you need help with
childcare because of an emergency situation;
-
If you would like
communion at home because you can’t make it to church
-
If you are ill or have
upcoming surgery scheduled
-
If you are lonely or
depressed
-
If you are going to the
hospital for a medical procedure and would like a prayer, some company,
or to be on the prayer list
-
If you simply want someone
to listen
-
Or, if being part of the
caregivers group sounds interesting to you.
Please also know that for
emergencies, Fr. Rob can be reached at 770-656-3011.

St. Aidan’s
Green
Team

Green Team Tip
Although Valentine's Day
has come and gone, consider giving an organic bouquet when the occasion
calls for flowers. Non-organic flowers can contain 50 times more
pesticides than is legal to have on food. Buying local is a good
idea too, since 80 percent of flowers sold in the U.S. are imported from
Colombia and Ecuador on refrigerated airplanes. Better to give
home-grown blooms, to buy what’s in season from the farmers' market, or
to give a potted plant, which lasts much longer. The
Green Team
will meet with the
Buildings and Grounds committee this Sunday, February 21, in
Burtenshaw Hall after the 11 am service.
Recycling bins are
here!
Recycling bins are located in the kitchen, by the drink machine and
downstairs in the classroom areas for recycling paper, aluminum cans,
plastic bottles, and other recyclable materials. For information,
contact Earl Bozeman at 404-486-9405 /
sonnyb49@comcast.net.
How are you helping to
save the planet?
The
Green
Team would like to know what you are doing in your home and community to
help save our planet. Please send photos of your recycling
efforts, compost bins, rain barrels, etc. to Joyce Tripp Miller, 1205
Tuscany Ct, Alpharetta, GA 30004 or
jtmiller120@gmail.com. Please identify people who are in your
photos.
Join the
Green
team!
The St. Aidan's
Green Team
meets the second Sunday of each month after the 11 am service;
all are welcome to participate. If you are
interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental stewardship
(recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at
fr.wood@earthlink.net.

deeply spiritual, educational, and fun. Reservations are strictly
required because all guests will have assigned seating, and will be
asked to prepare a simple dish for their table. Recipes will be
provided. Children are invited, but a nursery will be available for
young children. Reservations will be accepted until March 7th or until
104 reservations have been received. Sign up

Relief for Haiti - The Challenge to Help
Thanks to everyone for
their generous contributions to earthquake relief in Haiti. We
have raised $2,308 to date for Episcopal Relief and Development, with
several families embracing the Challenge to Help by donating $100 or
more. Aid is now flowing into Haiti, but the recovery and
rebuilding process will be long and difficult. If you have not yet
donated, or would like to make an additional contribution, you can
donate to ERD online at
https://www.er-d.org/donate-select.php or pick up an ERD envelope in
the narthex. You can also donate through St. Aidan's with a check
marked "Haiti" placed in the collection plate. Other agencies that
are helping are the Red Cross (
