Lenten Program: Lent and God’s New Creation

On Wednesday nights in Lent, Fr. Keith will discuss new ways to experience Lent. This week’s topic: Repentance: Understanding Ourselves in God’s Presence.

A simple soup supper begins at 6:00, with the program from 6:45 to 7:45. There will also be childcare for younger children and a supervised, seasonally appropriate video for older children.

Lenten Soup Making

We need 8-10 pots of soup each night, so please plan to bring your favorite soup once or twice! Feel free to bring your own soup bowl and spoon. Call Barb Mitchell 770.664.2901 or sign up in the narthex. Thanks to Publix for their donation of bread and cookies.

Daughters of the King Preparation Classes

There will be an informational meeting for all those women considering joining the DOK. This meeting will be Tuesday evening, February 26 at 7:30 in the church library. If you are interested and unable to attend, please contact Becky Sullivan at rssullivan5@gmail.com.

DOK stands for the Order of the Daughters of the King. Worldwide, it is an order for the lay (or ordained) woman who, by the reaffirmation of the promises made at Baptism, pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service, and evangelism, dedicated to strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

The St. Aidan’s chapter of DOK has 30-plus members and meets one Saturday per month at St Aidans. All women are welcome to attend the meetings. A requirement to become a daughter is to attend preparations classes. These classes run about 8 weeks. We are planning to start preparation classes this spring.

If you would like to donate altar flowers or have the tabernacle light candle burn for one week in honor of someone, please sign up in the binder in the narthex. You will be able to list who the donation is from, who it is to, and any dedication notes (i.e., in memory of, in thanksgiving for, etc.) or special requests (type of flower, color, etc.) on the form in the binder. The cost for altar flower donations is 45.00, and there can be two donations per Sunday (each for $45). The tabernacle light donation is $10. Alpharetta Marathon Road Closure notice for Sunday, March 2.

   (click map to enlarge)

As you come to church on March 2, please find an alternative route to the Windward parkway/Hwy 9/Cogburn route. There will be significant delays there due to the marathon. (Coming to church from the North, down Cogburn, should be normal because the Marathon does not come by St. Aidan’s.)

Expect the following issues:

GA 400 and WINDWARD PKWY: Entrance ramp to GA 400 Northbound and Exit ramp GA 400 Southbound at Windward Pkwy completely closed. (If that is your route, use Exit 12 instead, going from McFarland to Hwy 9, then south, eventually turning right onto Bethany Bend, then left onto Cogburn toward church.)

Windward Parkway: One lane closed in each direction.

EXPECT HEAVY DELAYS AT THE INTERSECTION OF WINDWARD PKWY AND Hwy 9/N. Main.

We suggested going further North on Hwy 9, past Frye’s, and turning left (West) onto Webb Road. Then take a right (North) onto Cogburn, and come to church.

Or use Bethany Bend further north, and then come down Cogburn (South) to church.

Or come “the back way” along Hopewell Rd, turning Rt. Onto Bethany Bend, and then Right onto Cogburn (at King’s Ridge) and then to church.

Hwy 9/Main Street: Pace vehicle leading Southbound traffic from Cogburn Rd. (at the old Ingles shopping center) to Canton St. Extension. EXPECT HEAVY DELAYS. One Southbound lane closed from Canton Street Extension to Milton Ave.

You’ve got a few weeks, so map out your alternative route now. We’ve contacted Marathon organizers to ask for more church-traffic consideration. They have been responsive, but solutions more likely for next year.
