Do You Remember Lenten Mite Boxes?

A Mite Box is a small box used by families or individuals for special collections.  Mite Boxes are often distributed during Lent as a symbol of our willingness to give what we have for the care of others.  The word "mite" refers to a small offering or gift. (See the Parable of the Widow's Mite in Luke 21.)  We will distribute the boxes during Sunday School next Sunday, February 28. You can also pick up a box from the narthex anytime during Lent. The Mite Boxes are made available to the congregation through Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD).  Funds collected will be donated to NetsForLife, a partner of ERD dedicated to eradicating malaria through the distribution of mosquito nets.

Honduras Building Mission - June Trip

The Honduras Building Mission team is ramping up plans for the next trip in June.  If you're interested in joining the team, which includes parishioners from several local Episcopal churches, come to the next team meeting on Tuesday March 9, at 6:30 pm at St. David’s in Roswell (1015 Old Roswell Road).  Mission trips to Honduras are a spiritual journey open to all parishioners, including teens.  (Younger teens should be accompanied by a parent).  Team members take time for a personal discernment process, join in team activities and become part of a “building” mission: building community, building relationships, “being” the Church.  Dates for the trip are 6/19 – 6/26 and the cost is $400, plus airfare.  Payment includes room and board, local transportation, travel insurance and embassy registration.  For additional information, contact Joey Sargent, jfsargent@gmail.com.

"Could You Not Watch with Me One Hour?"

What is the Altar of Repose? This practice involves setting aside the remaining consecrated bread and wine from the Maundy Thursday liturgy in a place other than the main altar or aumbry of the church. The vigil is an opportunity for our continuing devotions as we “stay awake with Christ” (Matthew 26:40) and prepare for Good Friday and the hope of the Easter Vigil.

Hunger Walk/Run

For over 25 years, the Hunger Walk/Run has united Atlantans of all ages and athletic backgrounds to raise money in support of the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s efforts to alleviate hunger and poverty in our area. Over 11,000 participants come together each March to raise more than $400,000. The Hunger Walk is sponsors by six local nonprofits, including the Episcopal Charities Foundation (ECF).

Pastoral Care Notes
Fr. Rob and Harmony Kiser (our vestry person for Pastoral Care) have formed a pastoral care group of nearly 20 parishioners whose mission it is to serve those of St. Aidan’s in need.  With nearly 900 people who call St. Aidan’s home, there are many ways to take care of each other - but only if we know about them.  So please call the church or speak to Fr. Rob or Harmony ...

  • If someone you know is shut-in and would like a visit, a call, or a card

  • If a prepared meal would be a help if you recovering from illness or have a special need or situation

  • If you or a parishioner you know could use a ride to church or to an appointment

  • If you need help with childcare because of an emergency situation

  • If you would like communion at home because you can’t make it to church

  • If you are ill or have upcoming surgery scheduled

  • If you are lonely or depressed

  • If you are going to the hospital for a medical procedure and would like a prayer, some company, or to be on the prayer list

  • If you simply want someone to listen

  • Or, if being part of the caregivers group sounds interesting to you

Please also know that for emergencies, Fr. Rob can be reached at 770-656-3011.

Introducing NFCC Food Pantry "Item of the Month"

St. Aidan's has long supported North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) with annual Brown Bag food drives and assorted food donations.  Now we'll be collecting food donations based on specific needs identified by NFCC.  This will help balance the inventory in the NFCC Food Panty, so they don't end up with tons of rice and no peanut butter, for example.  The "Item of the Month" will be listed in Parish Matters and eNews each week.  To donate, just purchase the "Item of the Month" during your regular grocery shopping, and drop it in the box in the Narthex at any time during the month.  The NFCC Food Pantry "Item of the Month" for or March are:  vegetable oil (small to medium sized bottles) and dry pinto beans (1 lb bags).

St. Aidan’s Green Team

Green Team Tip

Road-tripping for Spring Break? Consider leaving your clunker at home and renting a hybrid: you'll save on gas and prevent wear and tear on your car. Once you're at your destination, using a bicycle or public transportation for sight-seeing will reduce your footprint and burn off a few of those vacation libations.

Green Team Meeting

The next Green Team meeting will be on Sunday, March 14, in the Library following the 11:00 am service.

Recycling Reminder

Please stop and think before tossing your trash!  Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall appropriately.  The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  The small cans in the classrooms are for clean paper.  The Green Team appreciates your consideration!

How are you helping to save the planet?

The Green Team would like to know what you are doing in your home and community to help save our planet.  Please send photos of your recycling efforts, compost bins, rain barrels, etc. to Joyce Tripp Miller, 1205 Tuscany Ct, Alpharetta, GA 30004 or jtmiller120@gmail.com.  Please identify people who are in your photos.

Join the Green team!

The St. Aidan's Green Team meets the second Sunday of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.  If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at fr.wood@earthlink.net.

Disaster Relief for Haiti - The Challenge to Help

We have raised $2,308 to date for Episcopal Relief and Development, with several families embracing the Challenge to Help by donating $100 or more.  Aid is now flowing into Haiti, but the recovery and rebuilding process will be long and difficult.  If you have not yet donated, or would like to make an additional contribution, you can donate to ERD online at https://www.er-d.org/donate-select.php or pick up an ERD envelope in the narthex.  You can also donate through St. Aidan's with a check marked "Haiti" placed in the collection plate.  Other agencies that are helping are the Red Cross ( www.redcross.org) or Doctors Without Borders (http://doctorswithoutborders.org/).

Gluten Free Wafers

At the request of a few parishioners, we now have gluten free wafers.  Any who wish to receive them, please receive communion at the prayer station to the right of the altar area (where the healing station often is).  Note: it is not a healing station unless we’ve used the litany for healing, which is once every other month.  Family members who do not need gluten free wafers but who want to receive communion with a family member who does may also receive at the gluten free station.
