Holy Week Services
Plan now to join us for
Holy Week services. The week from Palm Sunday to Easter is called Holy
Week, during which we remember the week leading to Jesus’ crucifixion
and resurrection. The main thing to remember is that our life in Christ
is not just about Easter. His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the Last
Supper, His arrest and crucifixion are significant moments to remember
and celebrate with prayer and devotion. Please plan in advance to join
us during these holy times.
Palm Sunday, March 16
For the 8 am service, the
Liturgy of the Palms will take place in the church at the beginning of
the service. For the later service, the Liturgy of the Palms will begin
at the Cottage at 10:15 a.m.—and then we will process to the church.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in Holy Week
7:30 PM Eucharist
Maundy Thursday, March 20
7:30 PM (Remembering the
Last Supper, how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, and told them to love
one another as he loved them. Followed by the all-night prayer vigil.
Sign up in the narthex or on line (as individuals or in pairs) for the
Thursday night prayer vigil.
Good Friday, March 21
- 12 noon liturgy to remember our Lord’s passion on the cross
- 7 PM Stations of the Cross, which follows Jesus the events along path
from His arrest to Calvary
The Great Vigil of Easter, March 22

Stewardship Note
Dear Parishioners of
St. Aidan’s:
It is hard to believe that we are coming up on the one-year anniversary
of the “Lift High the Cross” Campaigns. We have so much to be grateful
for and so much to be proud of, due to the efforts of so many. The
pledges made to both the “annual giving” and the “capital” campaigns are
a true reflection of our thanks for all God has given us and for all He
has done to bless our lives. Your contributions and support are greatly
appreciated! Visit the bulletin board in Burtenshaw Hall for details.
Just a couple of reminders….
With the one year anniversary coming up in April, we hope you will
review the status of both your pledges (as detailed in a recent mailing)
and stay up-to-date in meeting your commitment each campaign. We hope
the envelopes mailed to you for “Lift High the Cross” and the “Sunday
Offering” are helpful to you. However, if you are not receiving
envelopes and would like to, or if you are receiving them and would
prefer not to, please contact Donna (our Church Secretary).
Last year we held both the Annual Giving and the Capital Campaigns in
the spring. While necessary, that Spring-timing created a challenge, as
it does not align with our fiscal year. Our campaigns this year will
move us back to a calendar-year basis. Therefore, as you complete the
Annual Giving pledge in April, we ask you to prayerfully consider how
best to continue your pledge for the remaining eight months of 2008. Our
hope is that you will extend your current pledge or even increase that
amount for the balance of the year (more information on that next
month).
Finally, this coming fall will begin our big annual Stewardship Campaign
for 2009. Our goal is to have 100% participation. We hope that everyone
will join us in this objective and continue their support of God's
mission and ministry at St. Aidan’s.
Again, Many thanks to all who help make the LHTC Campaigns successful.
Faithfully,
Beth Burns and Brad Serff, Stewardship co-chairs
Jim Myers, Treasurer

Altar
Flowers / Tabernacle Light in 2008
If you would like to
donate altar flowers or have the tabernacle light candle burn for one
week in honor of someone, please sign up in the binder in the narthex.
You will be able to list who the donation is from, who it is to, and any
dedication notes (i.e., in memory of, in thanksgiving for, etc.) or
special requests (type of flower, color, etc.) on the form in the
binder. The cost for altar flower donations is 45.00, and there can be
two donations per Sunday (each for $45). The tabernacle light donation
is $10. Please be sure to make a note on the memo portion of your check
stating the date and if donation is for altar flowers or the tabernacle
light.

Breakfast
Ministry
Your support and a small
price increase. Our Breakfast Ministry does more than break a few eggs.
Not only do they provide breakfast but they also provide a reason to sit
and have fellowship with those we know and an opportunity to meet those
who we don’t yet know. The success of this ministry is gauged primarily
by the crowd at breakfast and gets its main reward from the comments and
gratitude expressed by you.
Something you may not know
is that the ministry supports many different areas of the church. The
ministry has contributed to the following: Building a new Playground,
Vacation Bible School, Facilities Improvements, Parish Picnic, Attic
Sale, Outreach (Habitat for Humanity), EYC, Coffee Ministry and the
Monthly Birthday Celebration. Why are we telling you this? Well we want
to continue to provide the fellowship as well as to contribute
financially to other ministries in the church. To do this we need to
raise our prices. We will now be charging $4 per adult, $1 per child
with a maximum of $10 per family. We think the value of breakfast, the
fellowship opportunities and the contributions back into the church are
well worth the increase. If you have any questions or concerns please
see Don McPherson or Richard Schuetze. Thank you for your
continued support.

Daughters
of the King Preparation Classes
DOK stands for the Order
of the Daughters of the King. Worldwide, it is an order for the lay (or
ordained) woman who, by the reaffirmation of the promises made at
Baptism, pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service, and
evangelism, dedicated to strengthening of the spiritual life of her
parish.
The St. Aidan’s chapter of DOK has 30-plus members and meets one
Saturday per month at St Aidans. All women are welcome to attend the
meetings. A requirement to become a daughter is to attend preparations
classes. These classes run about 8 weeks. We are planning to start
preparation classes this spring.
For more information, please check out
www.dok-national.org or
ask questions of Becky Sullivan or any other Daughter. If you are
interested please contact Becky Sullivan 404-626-3156 or
rssullivan5@gmail.com. You
can also talk to other daughters at St. Aidan’s.

Easter Day Services
March 23rd — Special
Times 9 & 11:15 AM
We know that 8 am is early to start for many, especially those with
younger children. There’s also a history of full seating at the 10:30.
Our hope in moving the times up is that some who normally come to
10:30 AM will come at 9 AM instead to balance out attendance. And you
can always come to the Easter Vigil the Saturday night before Easter
at 8 PM and have that “count” as Easter.

A letter from Deacon Carole
Maddux
Dear People and Vestry of St. Aidan’s,
Thank you so much for the lovely going away party and generous love
offering—not to mention the Honduras scholarship! You have all given me
so much over the years. I am richly blessed.
It has been a great privilege and pleasure to serve St. Aidan’s in a lay
and ordained capacity. You have formed me and given me the “talents” I
need as I take Christ’s Word to the world, and I thank you for it.
Looking forward to the next time our journeys cross.
IHN,
Deacon Carole

Mittie's of Alpharetta
Did you know that Mittie’s
of Alpharetta, owned by parishioners Tom, Cindy, (Jessica, and Ashley)
Hoynowski support St. Aidan’s through a 10% rebate program? Anytime a
St. Aidan’s parishioner dines with them, they put 10% of that receipt
into a fund, and then give that fund as a gift to St. Aidan’s at year’s
end. So, not only do they have good food and a great atmosphere, (and a
friendly wait staff who you might just recognize), they support our
ministry with this kind of tithe. Visit them in downtown Alpharetta on
Hwy 9, just across the street from the Methodist church.

Around the Diocese
The Diocese of Atlanta
will soon welcome an assistant bishop, the Rt. Rev. Keith B. Whitmore of
Eau Claire, Wis.
The Rt. Rev. Keith B. Whitmore, bishop of the Diocese of Eau Claire,
Wisconsin, has accepted an invitation from Bishop J. Neil Alexander to
become the Diocese of Atlanta's assistant bishop.
Whitmore, 62 and a priest for 30 years, will take on his new role "as
soon after Easter as possible," said Alexander. "It will take a while to
arrange a move and get settled."
Whitmore was ordained bishop of Eau Claire in 1999. He is a Wisconsin
native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and
Nashotah House, Nashotah, Wis. He has served congregations in Wisconsin,
Missouri and Kansas, where he was dean of Christ Cathedral, Salina, and
he serves as a trustee for the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. He and
his wife, Suzanne, have been married 41 years. They have two grown
children.
"I am delighted that Bishop Whitmore will be joining us in the Diocese
of Atlanta," Alexander said. "In our years together in the House of
Bishops, I have come to deeply respect Bishop Whitmore for his integrity
and his principled way of engaging the full life of the church. He has
been faithful over many years in his commitment to The Episcopal Church.
He brings us gifts that are complementary to mine and will not just fill
in around the edges. He will be able to join me in leading the mission
and ministry of this great diocese."
Bishop Whitmore has visited the Diocese of Atlanta and met with members
of the Diocese of Atlanta Standing Committee. The Very Rev. Douglas Hahn
of Columbus, chair of the Standing Committee and dean of the
Chattahoochee Valley Convocation, affirmed the choice.
"We are pleased to give our unanimous support to Bishop Whitmore's call
as our assistant bishop," Hahn said. "We were impressed with his
forthrightness and his pastoral sensitivity, and believe he will be an
important addition to our ministry in the diocese.
Hahn added, "We have long believed that the size and complexity of our
diocese require the presence of an assistant bishop and believe that the
gifts of Bishop Whitmore, along with his background from another region
of our church, will broaden and deepen our common service to our Risen
Lord."
