Adult Christian Education

Sunday Adult Forum - Easter Starts Our Mission

What does it mean to pray that “God send us into the world,” as we do in our post communion prayer, or “to go forth in the name of Christ.” The adult forum in April and May with Fr. Rob will engage us in living those words, not just saying them.

Sunday Bible Study - "To Live Is Christ"

"To Live Is Christ" Bible study by Beth Moore journeys the audience through the events in the life of Paul.

Weekly Bible Study

The Weekly Bible Study is on Tuesdays at 9:30am and Wednesdays at 7:00pm.  We study the Sunday Lectionary in advance of the upcoming Sunday.

Summer Mission Trip to Honduras

The next mission trip to work with the LAMB Institute in Honduras will be June 19 - 26, 2010.  Join the team to travel with members of several local Episcopal churches as they support the poor in and around Tegucigalpa.  Enjoy the opportunity to share God's grace with children at the residential home and live out St. Aidan's mission "To Know Jesus Christ and Make Him Known."

Mission trips to Honduras are a spiritual journey open to parishioners of all ages, including teens age 15 or older.  Team members become part of a “building” mission: building community, building relationships and “being” the Church.  The cost is $400 plus airfare.  Some team members use frequent flyer miles to offset the airfare cost, which runs about $700.

For additional information, contact Joey Sargent, jfsargent@gmail.com or 770.335.5244.

Church Door Locks

The Church door locks will be changed in early May.  The new key is for the front doors leading into the narthex, the side door by the sacristy and offices, and the patio door near the sidewalk between the buildings.  If you were previously in possession of a church key and still need one, you will be able to get one next Sunday, May 9th. There will be a table set up for key exchange where you will be able to turn in your old key and sign out a new one.  If you need a key before then or don’t have one to exchange, please call Donna Jones in the church office at 770-521-0207 to make arrangements.  You can also bring your old key by the office to receive a new one.

Thanks you for your help with our parish music survey!  Nearly 50% of the parish responded, and the search committee will be reviewing the results this week.  We also want to share those results with you on Sunday, May 2, at 10 in the Adult Forum.  To review and discuss those results with as many people present is our goal for such discussions will help us to shape the position description for the new organist/choirmaster.  Please plan to join us May 2 in Burtenshaw Hall at 10 am.

Hikers, Walkers and Lovers of Nature

St. Aidan’s Spring Family Hike is Saturday, May 8th at 8am.  The Laurel Ridge Trail is a relatively flat 3.8 mile circular trail at Buford Dam.  It should be a fun hike for young and old alike.  Bring a picnic lunch if you want to make a day of it.  The trail is about 15 miles from the church (400 Exit 14) so it should not take long to get there and back.  We will meet in St. Aidan’s parking lot at 8am and leave promptly at 8:15am.  We should be back around noon.  Contact Jim Linthicum if you would like to meet the group at the trail.  To sign-up or ask questions, contact Jim at jlinthicum@yahoo.com or 404.983.3558.

St. Aidan’s Green Team

This Week's Green Team Tip

Here is a "recipe" for dishwasher detergent without chemicals provided by parishioner Barb Mitchell; she says that it works very well for her.  Prepare a mixture that is half 20 Mule Team Borax and half Arm & Hammer Washing Soda. Fill the dishwasher dispenser as you would with regular detergent. You also can use white vinegar in the rinse dispenser instead of rinse agent product.

Recycling Reminder

Please stop and think before tossing your trash!  Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall appropriately.  The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  The small cans in the classrooms are for clean paper.  The Green Team appreciates your consideration!

How are you helping to save the planet?

The Green Team would like to know what you are doing in your home and community to help save our planet.  Please send photos of your recycling efforts, compost bins, rain barrels, etc. to Joyce Tripp Miller, 1205 Tuscany Ct, Alpharetta, GA 30004 or jtmiller120@gmail.com.  Please identify people who are in your photos.

Join the Green team!

The St. Aidan's Green Team meets the second Sunday of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.  If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at fr.wood@earthlink.net.

Spring Harvest 2010
Three years ago we launched our Lift High the Cross campaign with much prayer and consideration.  Thanks be to God, we have had great success.  Together, the people of St. Aidan’s pledged approximately $1.1M to renovate the worship space and reduce our debt.  Our First Fruits offering in April of 2007 yielded more than $300,000 in contributions that were immediately placed into service for LHTC.  Since then, we contributed a cumulative $826,000 of our campaign pledges, as well as $81,000 in unpledged giving.  We have decreased our mortgage principal by approximately $645,000, built a reserve ($53,000), and improved our liturgical arts by enhancing the church with new window, new wood floors, altar rail, and paneling, and acquiring a new organ.

As we approach the three-year anniversary, we are giving thanks to God and celebrating LHTC in two ways.  First, on Sunday, May 23rd, we’ll celebrate and recap the three years during the Adult Forum at 10 am and later during our annual Spring Picnic.  Second, May will be "Spring Harvest Month,” with May 23 being the final “Spring Harvest Day.”  That spring harvest is meant to gather in all pledge payments and finish strong.  Just as a race has a final lap or a game a final inning in which a strong finish is important, so too does our campaign need commitment to the end.  A strong finish will allow us to reduce the remaining mortgage to $1.5 million—and manage that with our operating budget = and not have another campaign (which was our goal at the beginning of LHTC).

We are so close! As excited as we all were with our "First Fruits" celebration, we are hoping to finish with faith and strength in May. Please fulfill your remaining pledges this May, and, if you’re feeling particularly blessed, to make an unpledged contribution is always welcome. (We’ll be asking those who had not pledged over the past three years to make a similar one-time contribution.)

You may complete your pledge by:

  • writing a check and putting it in the plate on Sunday or in the mail

  • making an online payment at www.staidans.org

  • making a stock transfer at Wells Fargo Advisors.  Ron Jones is our account representative and can be reached at 800-606-1855 or 770-622-0660.  You may authorize your brokerage company to transfer your stocks to St. Aidan's, Wells Fargo Advisors #21055530, using DTC #0201.  Donations of stock certificates may also be made directly to the Church.

Thank you for your stewardship in this community of faith.  We have worked together to Know Christ and Make Him Known by lifting high the cross and working together for the common good.
