Blood Mountain Trail Hike - Saturday, June 5th

What better way to kick off the summer than a challenging mountain hike with beautiful vistas.  Join us on Saturday, June 5th, as we hike along the Appalachian Trail to the top of Blood Mountain.  The Blood Mountain Trail hike will be a difficult 5 mile round trip from the parking lot at Neels Gap to the top of Blood Mountain and back down.  The trail is about 60 miles from the church (an hour and a half drive).  We will meet in St. Aidan’s parking lot at 8AM and leave promptly at 8:15AM.  We should be back around 2 or 3PM.  Contact Jim Linthicum if you would like to meet the group at the trail.  To sign-up, get directions or ask questions, contact Jim at jlinthicum@yahoo.com or 404.983.3558. Directions can also be found on our website, www.staidans.com,  under upcoming events.

This Week’s Loose Plate Offering - Kids 4 Peace

The First Sunday Loose Plate Offering for June will support Kids 4 Peace, an interfaith educational program that brings together children of different cultures and faith traditions to explore their similarities and differences, taking a step toward global understanding and peace.  Twelve Middle School age children from Jerusalem, Israel and the West Bank, Palestine (Christian, Jewish and Muslim) and twelve children from the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta participate in a year long cultural exchange.  The kids share their stories, hopes and dreams and discover their common heritage.

A highlight of the exchange occurs during the summer when the children come together for a 10-day summer camp experience at Camp Mikell.  Our own Jack DeArmey has been selected for the program.  Jack will represent St.. Aidan's, along with representatives from 8 other Atlanta parishes in the 2010 Kids 4 Peace program.  Donations received for the loose plate offering will be used to sponsor Jack in the Kid's 4 Peace program.  You may also make donations to Kids 4 Peace anytime during the month of June by designating "Kids 4 Peace" in the memo line of your check.  For more information on Kids 4 Peace, visit http://kids4peaceatlanta.org/.

New 2010 Pictorial Directory

WE WANT YOU to be in our new 2010 PICTORIAL DIRECTORY.  Our dedicated professional photographer, Jim Pettit, will be taking pictures each Sunday in the Cathedral Room between church services.  We can use the pictures that were in the 2008 Pictorial Directory of you, or you can get new pictures taken by Jim.  This is also a great time to have a family picture made that you can use for your Christmas cards, or have enlarged for your home.  If you prefer to schedule a separate setting for your family picture, please contact Jim Pettit at jim@jamespettitphotography.com.  We would really love to have YOUR picture in our Pictorial Directory, since that is so helpful, but are totally dependent on YOUR cooperation to make this happen by having Jim take your picture.  Also, please check the Directory if you need to correct or update addresses, telephone numbers, or email addresses on the existing Directory.  If your information is correct, please initial by your name. If you have any questions, please contact Harmony Kiser at harmony.kiser@comcast.net or 770-205-7899.

St. Aidan’s Green Team

This Week's Green Team Tip

Now that the weather's warmer, instead of tossing your damp clothes into the dryer, hang them outside. Line-drying uses zero energy (except your own) and we think sun-dried clothes actually smell better. If the weather doesn't permit (or for more delicate items), invest in an inexpensive drying rack that you can set up inside. If you want to use a clothesline but your homeowners' association forbids it, consider getting involved with "Project Laundry List" http://www.laundrylist.org or a similar advocacy organization.

Recycling Reminder

Please stop and think before tossing your trash!  Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall appropriately.  The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  The small cans in the classrooms are for clean paper.  The Green Team appreciates your consideration!

Join the Green team!

The St. Aidan's Green Team meets the second Sunday of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.  If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at fr.wood@earthlink.net.
