Outreach “Field Trip” to Nicholas House, July 17th

Are you interested in learning more about how local charities are tackling problems like homelessness in our community?  Come along on an Outreach Field Trip to Nicholas House and see how their programs help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency.

For almost 30 years, Nicholas House has helped families stay together while they work to get back on their feet and stay there.  Through individualized case management and powerful youth programs that stop the cycle of poverty, Nicholas House has assisted over 1800 families on their way to healthy, productive and self-sufficient lives.  St. Aidan’s will be joining Nicholas House’s monthly Open Door Tour on Saturday, July 17th. We’ll meet at St. Aidan’s at 9:15 and carpool to Nicholas House near Grant Park. The tour runs from 10:30 – 11:30, and those interested can gather for lunch afterward to reflect on what we learned.  Please RSVP to Joey Sargent at jfsargent@gmail.com or 770.335.5244 so we have a count of those coming.

Please Wear Your Name Tags This Summer

Please wear your nametags this summer.  Name tags help visitors (and anybody) know your name, including our new assistant, Rebekah Hatch.  Having your name in front of her will greatly help her put names and faces together.  Thank you!

Pick-up Choir

If you have been thinking about joining the adult choir but have been afraid of the commitment, summer is a great time to try it out.  We rehearse Sunday mornings only in the choir loft just after the end of the early service, and do not vest or process.  You can drop in or drop out as the spirit moves you.  Singers of all abilities are welcome!!!!  If you have any questions, contact Sue Lawton at rslawton@bellsouth.net  or 770-772-6683.

LHTC Update

Thank you for a fruitful “Spring Harvest” as we celebrated the “official“ end of the LHTC campaign, though contributions will be accepted through the end of year.  As of June 2, $870,000 was received in pledged contributions with approximately $230,000 remaining.  As the Finance Committee reviews our remaining debt obligations, it is important for them to be able to gauge the fate of the remaining pledges.

Over the next few weeks, we will be touching base with those that have remaining balances so that we can estimate how many additional pledge dollars we can budget for and when, in a very broad sense, they might come in.  We know that parishioners prayerfully considered their pledge amounts, and this process is intended only to provide budget guidance, not to put anyone on the spot.  Please be candid when contacted, and know that this information is kept confidential.  Updates can also be made by calling the church office at 770-521-0207 or emailing Donna Jones at donnajones@staidans.org.

St. Aidan’s Green Team

This Week's Green Team Tip

Some 60 million Americans fire up the grill on Independence Day, consuming enough energy – in the form of charcoal, lighter fluid, gas, and electricity – to power 20,000 households for a year, and releasing about 225,000 tons of carbon emissions.  To reduce your output, opt for an electric or propane grill, both of which are cleaner-burning than units powered by charcoal.  If you must use coal, choose briquettes made of invasive tree species, or derived from sustainably managed forests.  The Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program and the Forest Stewardship Council help consumers make this distinction; just look for their seals when making your purchase.

Recycling Reminder

Please stop and think before tossing your trash!  Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall appropriately.  The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  The small cans in the classrooms are for clean paper.  The Green Team appreciates your consideration!

Join the Green team!

The St. Aidan's Green Team meets the second Sunday of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.  If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at fr.wood@earthlink.net.

Mission Trip to the Philippines — Making Jesus Known

Joe Carnaroli, who will be a senior at West Forsyth High School this fall, is headed to the Philippines on July 16th.  Joe will be traveling with Browns Bridge Community Church to Cebu City to launch a church youth group, staff a sports camp for the young church goers and their friends, and work on community projects such as repairing and painting an elementary school.  Most importantly, this an opportunity to make Jesus known to young people in the Philippine community through worship, small groups, and just hanging out in a caring, wholesome atmosphere.  Joe has attended St. Aidan's since he was 18 months old.  After serving as an acolyte for 8 years, Joe went through Eucharistic Minister training and serves as an EM at the 8:30 service.

If you would like to support Joe's mission trip, you can write checks to Northpoint Ministries or directly to Joe Carnaroli, and send to 7150 Wyngate Drive, Cumming, GA 30040 or go on line to www.globalxm.org, click on GIVE, choose Philippines, and type in Joe Carnaroli.  Your gift is tax deductible.  Joe and the team are grateful for any financial support, and most especially prayers for the safety and success of the mission of these committed young people are greatly appreciated!  Follow the mission on philippinestrip2010.blogspot.com.  Thank you for your support.  Joe is thankful for the support that he has already received from some generous St. Aidan's parishioners.

We Need a Few Good Moppers!

The Mopping Ministry saves the church over $5,000 each year in commercial cleaning fees.  We mop Burtenshaw Hall floor twice each month and with 8 teams, each team mops 3 times a year, usually 2 hours on a Saturday morning.  The "Zamboni" scrubbing machine is a big help in cleaning the floor.

Men, women and youth are invited to join the Mighty Moppers by signing up on the bulletin board in Burtenshaw Hall or by contacting 'da Big Mopper', Jerry Hood, at jhood66@comcast.net or 770-720-6171.
