St.
Aidan’s
Green
Team
This Week's
Green
Team Tip
Going off to college and
need furniture? Whether you’re seeking a bed frame or a couch,
consider buying it used at a thrift store, garage sale, or a site like
Craigslist; if it’s not perfect, you can always polish or paint it once
you get it home. If you feel you must purchase a new piece, look
for items made of reclaimed, Poly, or FSC-certified wood. As for
that nightstand, think through what you top it with. Good choices
include an energy-saving lamp or an alarm clock
http://www.bedolwhatsnext.com/clocks-waterpowered-clock-c-89_199.html
that runs off nothing but water.
Recycling Reminder
Please stop and think before tossing your
trash! Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall
appropriately. The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic
bottles and aluminum cans. The small cans in the classrooms are
for clean paper. The
Green
Team appreciates your consideration!
Join the Green team!
The St. Aidan's
Green
Team meets the
second Sunday
of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.
If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental
stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at
fr.wood@earthlink.net.

Habitat for
Humanity
Habitat for Humanity,
North Fulton does not give houses away. Rather, they make affordable
housing available to qualified families at reasonable prices and no
interest mortgages. Each family is screened to insure they have the
skills and financial resources to maintain a home. Classes are required
of prospective home owners to ensure they are prepared for home
ownership. Each family must put sweat equity into the building of their
own home by working side by side with volunteers also working on their
new home.
St. Aidan's has long participated in the Ecumenical Builds
that Habitat for Humanity North Fulton sponsors each fall. These builds
are supported by a variety of churches (and sometimes synagogues and
mosques) with contributions of time, talent and treasure. St. Aidan's
makes this a budgeted part of our mission to the community and many
volunteers look forward to the work days that are scheduled as part of
this build. In addition, some parishioners are year round supporters
of Habitat.
The current build is very close to St. Aidan's, just north along HWY 9,
across from the new Super Target in the subdivision called Centennial
Village. The pre-build week day work is already underway. The
first nail ceremony to kick off the Saturday work is on August 7.
This is always an exciting day because the first floor framing is
completed from start to finish. St. Aidan's is also signed up along
with our sister church of St. David's Episcopal Church to provide
volunteers and food for two Saturdays: October 9 - Drywall/Siding and
October 30 - Painting. No special skills or tools are
required. Habitat provides training, skilled team leaders, and all
the tools. If you prefer, there are important roles in food prep and/or
serving. Please let Jim Myers (678-641-9527)
jimmyers47@gmail.com know the
dates you want to participate.
