Worship Notes
Our service changes
throughout the year not only because we have a rich heritage of
prayers in the Book of Common Prayer, but also because it’s good to
have a change every now and then. Some changes follow the church
calendar, but the changes for August are more for variety and to use
other prayers in our tradition. Beginning this Sunday, our liturgy
shifts from Eucharistic Prayer C to Prayer A. For the fraction
anthem, we’ll sing ‘My flesh is food indeed,’ which comes from
Jesus’ own words in John 6. Our song of praise shifts from the
Gloria to Canticle 13, ‘Glory to you, Lord God of our Fathers,’ also
in the prayer book on page 90. Finally, we’ll use the second form
of the post-communion prayer, found on page 366. We hope these
changes help us to experience the depth of prayer and praise in our
tradition.

Food Pantry "Item of the Month"
To donate, just purchase
the "Item of the
Month" during
your regular grocery shopping, and drop it in the box in the Narthex at
any time during the month.
The "Items” for
August are school supplies.
It’s back to school
time and the NFCC families will need help getting their children ready
for school. Please pick up extra school supplies when you are shopping
this month for your school age children - notebook paper, pencils,
pens, crayons, rulers, 3 ring binders, spiral notebooks.

The
Blessing of the Backpacks
With schools opening
over the next few weeks, it is ‘meet and right’ to bless children
and their studies. All students are welcome to bring their
backpacks to church on Sunday, August 22, and come forward
for a blessing during the announcements. We will bless all
teachers, too!

We’d Like to Thank …
There are so many of you who help around the church, and we want to
be sure to say thanks. This week, thanks to…
-
Bob and Joan Cowart for all
their may hours of gardening care around the church property during
these hot summer months, especially for planting and maintaining the
flowers at the entrance on Cogburn Road.
-
Treasurer Jim Myers and
assistant treasurer John Ray for their skill and time
maintaining our financial records, generating countless reports,
communicating with the bank, and helping us all be good stewards of
our collective resources for the kingdom.

Please Wear Your
Name Tags This Summer
Please wear your
nametags this summer. Name tags help visitors (and anybody)
know your name, including our new assistant, Rebekah Hatch.
Having your name in front of her will greatly help her put names and
faces together. Thank you!

Habitat for
Humanity
Habitat for Humanity,
North Fulton does not give houses away. Rather, they make affordable
housing available to qualified families at reasonable prices and no
interest mortgages. Each family is screened to insure they have the
skills and financial resources to maintain a home. Classes are required
of prospective home owners to ensure they are prepared for home
ownership. Each family must put sweat equity into the building of their
own home by working side by side with volunteers also working on their
new home.
St. Aidan's has long participated in the Ecumenical Builds
that Habitat for Humanity North Fulton sponsors each fall. These builds
are supported by a variety of churches (and sometimes synagogues and
mosques) with contributions of time, talent and treasure. St. Aidan's
makes this a budgeted part of our mission to the community and many
volunteers look forward to the work days that are scheduled as part of
this build. In addition, some parishioners are year round supporters
of Habitat.
The current build is very close to St. Aidan's, just north along HWY 9,
across from the new Super Target in the subdivision called Centennial
Village. The pre-build week day work is already underway. The
first nail ceremony to kick off the Saturday work is on August 7.
This is always an exciting day because the first floor framing is
completed from start to finish. St. Aidan's is also signed up along
with our sister church of St. David's Episcopal Church to provide
volunteers and food for two Saturdays: October 9 - Drywall/Siding and
October 30 - Painting. No special skills or tools are
required. Habitat provides training, skilled team leaders, and all
the tools. If you prefer, there are important roles in food prep and/or
serving. Please let Jim Myers (678-641-9527)
jimmyers47@gmail.com know the
dates you want to participate.

St.

Green
Team
This Week's
Green
Team Tip
Instead of trashing your
unsold garage-sale items, hand them over to local charities such as
North Fulton Community Charities, Goodwill, or consignment shops for
recycling through reuse. Not only do you rid yourself of all that
unwanted junk, you also put acceptable items into the hands of those who
need them – instead of into a landfill. To go the extra, greener
mile, consider donating a portion of your yard sale earnings to your
favorite environmental organization.
Recycling Reminder
Please stop and think before tossing your
trash! Please use the recycling containers in Burtenshaw Hall
appropriately. The tall slim cans are for clean, empty plastic
bottles and aluminum cans. The small cans in the classrooms are
for clean paper. The
Green
Team appreciates your consideration!
Join the Green team!
The St. Aidan's
Green
Team meets the
second Sunday
of each month after the 11 am service; all are welcome to participate.
If you are interested in helping St. Aidan’s with its environmental
stewardship (recycling and the like) please contact Father Rob at
fr.wood@earthlink.net.

We
Need a Few Good Moppers!
The Mopping Ministry
saves the church over $5,000 each year in commercial cleaning
fees. We mop Burtenshaw Hall floor twice each month and with
8 teams, each team mops 3 times a year, usually 2 hours on a
Saturday morning.
The "Zamboni"
scrubbing machine is a big help in cleaning the floor.
Men, women and youth
are invited to join the Mighty Moppers by signing up on the
bulletin board in Burtenshaw Hall or by contacting 'da Big Mopper',
Jerry Hood, at
jhood66@comcast.net
