Meetings This Sunday, August 15th

(top)

Worship Notes

Our service changes throughout the year not only because we have a rich heritage of prayers in the Book of Common Prayer, but also because it’s good to have a change every now and then.  Some changes follow the church calendar, but the changes for August are more for variety and to use other prayers in our tradition.  Beginning this Sunday, our liturgy shifts from Eucharistic Prayer C to Prayer A.  For the fraction anthem, we’ll sing ‘My flesh is food indeed,’ which comes from Jesus’ own words in John 6.  Our song of praise shifts from the Gloria to Canticle 13, ‘Glory to you, Lord God of our Fathers,’ also in the prayer book on page 90.  Finally, we’ll use the second form of the post-communion prayer, found on page 366.  We hope these changes help us to experience the depth of prayer and praise in our tradition.

The Blessing of the Backpacks

With schools opening over the next few weeks, it is ‘meet and right’ to bless children and their studies.  All students are welcome to bring their backpacks to church on Sunday, August 22, and come forward for a blessing during the announcements.  We will bless all teachers, too!

Fragrance Sensitivity

Some people have highly allergic reactions to perfume and other smells that come from detergents, hair sprays, and soaps.  Though such reactions are rare, we do have members of St. Aidan's whose allergies are that severe, which unfortunately can make them very ill.  We ask your sensitivity and cooperation by not wearing perfume or cologne when coming to church.  Thank you for your understanding

NFCC Food Pantry "Item of the Month"

To donate, just purchase the "Item of the Month" during your regular grocery shopping, and drop it in the box in the Narthex at any time during the month.

The "Items” for August are school supplies.  It’s back to school time and the NFCC families will need help getting their children ready for school.  Please pick up extra school supplies when you are shopping this month for your school age children - notebook paper, pencils, pens, crayons, rulers, 3 ring binders, spiral notebooks.

NFCC Back to School Fair

St. Aidan's will be collecting donations of new backpacks and school supplies for the NFCC "Back to School Fair" being held on August 21st.  See the bulletin board in Burtenshaw Hall for items that are needed.  All donations should be dropped off at St. Aidan's by Sunday, August 15th.  If you're not a shopper, you can make a monetary donation to help fund the Back to School Fair.  NFCC needs volunteers to help on 8/20 from 5pm to 7pm and on 8/21 from 8am to 1pm Contact Karen Rupp (770) 640-0399 x 230 or by e-mail at krupp@nfcchelp.org to volunteer.

Please Wear Your Name Tags This Summer

Please wear your nametags this summer.  Name tags help visitors (and anybody) know your name, including our new assistant, Rebekah Hatch.  Having your name in front of her will greatly help her put names and faces together.  Thank you!

We’d Like to Thank …
There are so many of you who help around the church, and we want to be sure to say thanks.  This week, thanks to…

  • Mighty Mopping Team 6 - Dave Ferber, Matt Henderson, Jim Linthicum and Tony Zamonis for mopping Burtenshaw Hall yesterday.

  • Andy Anderson and Meg Ross for assembling the bulletins weekly and for all the extra tasks: Meg comes early to proofread the bulletin and insert and Mr. Anderson laminates name badges, prepares checks for mailing, shreds documents and much more.  They both come to do these things every week, every year, without fail.  We are blessed to have them at St. Aidan’s and appreciate all the time and talent they donate to the church.

We Need a Few Good Moppers!

The Mopping Ministry saves the church over $5,000 each year in commercial cleaning fees.  We mop Burtenshaw Hall floor twice each month and with 8 teams, each team mops 3 times a year, usually 2 hours on a Saturday morning.  The "Zamboni" scrubbing machine is a big help in cleaning the floor.

Men, women and youth are invited to join the Mighty Moppers by signing up on the bulletin board in Burtenshaw Hall or by contacting 'da Big Mopper', Jerry Hood, at jhood66@comcast.net or 770-720-6171.
