The Latin
American Missionary and Bible Institue (LAMB) is a Christ-centered
ministry reaching out to the world with the love of Jesus. They have
actively cared for neglected and abandoned children since 2000. These
are children who are at risk or victims of physical, sexual, and
emotional abuse by adults and/or older siblings. This community
provides a safe, nurturing environment, balanced meals, clothing and
recreation, and tutoring. They have recently purchased rural land in
order to expand its overflowing Children's Residential Home to
better serve their needs. Teams from North Metro Episcopal Churches
provide assistance to the LAMB Institute which is located in Flor del
Campo, an impoverished inner city neighborhood in the Honduran capital
city of Tegucigalpa.
During March 2007, St. Aidan's sent its
first mission team to Honduras to work for the LAMB Institute in
Tegucigalpa. Deacon Carole Maddux, Karen DeArmey and Jim Myers
represented the church. This team worked with local people to build
adobe style cottages to house these orphaned children.
During 2008 St. Aidan's is sending two
more teams: March 9-16 and April 6-13. The first team is composed of
Karen DeArmey, Betsy Laundon , Jim Myers and Martha Myers. The second
team is composed of Carole and Katy Maddux, and Alyssa and Joey
Sargent. This year the team hopes to complete the building of the
adobe style cottages on the new property. The ultimate plan calls
for ten cottages, each of which will accommodate 8-10 children with
two house parents in order to provide them with more of a family
environment.
