We are having a wonderful week in
Honduras, and the time is flying by. We arrived Saturday afternoon and took a
tour of the Children's Home at San Buena Ventura. On Sunday, the team attended
Palm Sunday services in Tegucigalpa at Christo Redemptor, the Episcopal Church
here. The service was mostly in Spanish, but it was really moving just the
same. In the afternoon, we played with the children at SBV and I got to spend
a little time with Anita on the playground.
On Monday we had our first full work day. The sun was blistering hot, so it
was a tough day. We worked on painting cottage 4, which is coming along
beautifully. I've attached some pictures so you can see the progress that's
been made since the windows went in. We continued on that project yesterday,
along with painting in the Director's cottage and the Kitchen-Laundry
building.
Some of the hardest work had been moving and tamping sand to prep for pouring
concrete. This is happening in the back of the laundry, which has been
expanded, and in the school building. Part of the team is also scraping and
cleaning construction debris from the school rooms, which they hope to
complete and occupy in a few weeks.
Today is another full workday. Then the team will clean up and go to Chirsto
Redemptor for the Maundy Thursday service. Tomorrow we'll hold Good Friday
services in the Chapel at SBC, which has a breathtaking view of the valley.
IŽd share more, but this note is already long, so I'll look forward to sharing
more news when we get back. There is wonderful work happening here in God's
name, and amazing faith among the people we are helping. Please keep them, and
all the poor in Honduras in your prayers.
Peace, Joey |

The cinder block bricks, cement, lots
other building materials were all purchased by contributions from
St. Aidan's. What fun to work hard, see these houses for the kids
take shape, knowing that so many at St. Aidan's are here working
with us in spirit and through their treasure. Notice the picture of
the kids eating their frozen bananas. The house they sit in front
of is one of two totally completed since our visit last year. Most
of the construction pictures show house 4, the one built jointly by
St. Aidan's and St. David's and other Episcopal churches in our
convocation. When we leave here this week, this house will be ready
for the roof. This takes lots of cash because all materials are
imported. But the progress is amazing. A total of about 45 kids
and 5 to 6 adults already live in these two houses.

On Wednesday we learned about all aspects
of the ministries here. We toured several of the facilities. Here are
some of the pictures of the people we are working for.

One of the jobs this week has been to fill
the foundation of the floors in all the rooms of the group home St.
Aidan's and St. David's is building. This means filling the rooms to
just below the top of the foundation with compacted dirt. A concrete
slab will be poored over this compacted dirt. The process involves
moving the dirt from the huge pile. A steady stream of wheelbarrows
moves from the dirt pile into the rooms while others manually tamp
down the loose dirt. Note the hand tamping instruments. Here are a
series of pictures that show this process.
First is Betsy standing in the bottom of the room pointing to the fill
line. Several pictures show wheelbarrows of dirt moving into the room.
Then some pictures of the finished result showing the tamping team and
the fill line now that the room is filled.
The final two pictures are of the kids. Snack time is a fun time for
everyone. The last pictures is inside Group Home number 1. This is the
common room where kids have school, etc. This is what Group Home
number 4 will be like, the one St. Aidan's is providing the materials
to build.
