Nursery Guidelines for Parent Volunteers

The nursery at St. Aidan’s exists to provide loving care in a safe, happy environment for our very youngest members.  We consider it a ministry of the utmost importance and we are willing to work very hard at it.  We ask your cooperation in following the volunteer guidelines to help us give the best quality care for all of our children.

  • Parents of children using the nursery are asked to volunteer to staff the nursery on a rotating basis.  If you can not serve in the nursery on the specified date, please make arrangements to switch with someone else on the list and notify the office of the schedule change.

  • Please arrive promptly  -  15 minutes prior to the last service for that morning.

  •  Read the sign-in sheet to note any allergies or special needs of the children.

  • Where applicable, children should bring labeled diapers, wipes, and bottle or sippy cup to avoid unnecessary sharing.  Place all children’s personal items (labeled) in the cubbies above the changing table.

  • Please discourage toys from home from being brought into the nursery.  They are difficult to keep up with and we can’t guarantee their safe return on a hectic day!

  • All children under 2 should remain in the nursery room (room with changing table and supplies).  All children between the ages of 2 and 5 should remain in the middle room.  Children 5 and over should attend church with their families since we do not currently have the room or the staff to accommodate them.

  • Diaper changes should occur at least once during a nursery visit.  The changing station has all the necessary supplies.  It is imperative that hands be washed or sanitized after each change.  Dirty diapers should be placed in the trash can and removed (tied off!) to the large can in the hallway after the last service of the day.  No child should be allowed to leave the nursery with a dirty diaper.

  • If a child does not settle down or continues to cry consistently for 12 minutes, please send a nursery caregiver to get the parents.  Please encourage the parents to try the nursery again next Sunday!

  • If children are not drinking from their bottles or cups, place them out of reach of other children.

  • Snacks should not be served while the children are in the nursery unless it is an emergency!

  • If the weather permits and there are enough care givers, children (with permission indicated on the sign-in sheet) can go to the playground.  One nursery parent and one teen volunteer must accompany the children to the playground.  No less than two (2) responsible adults must be with the children indoors at all times.

  • Videos need to be restricted to Bible stories and those appropriate for children under 3.

  • Sick children are not allowed to stay in the nursery.  If a child becomes ill during the service, isolate them from other children and send another nursery caregiver to find the parents.  The child will need to be removed from the nursery.

  • Do not release any child to any person other than the adult who dropped off that child.

Thank you for supporting St. Aidan’s Nursery.  Your time in the nursery will enable another parent(s) to Know Christ and Make Him Known.
