St. Aidan's Episcopal Church
Policy on the Use of
Alcohol
The following General
Principles and Requirements for the use of alcohol at St. Aidan's are
meant to be the usual operating rule. However, there may be special
circumstances or occasions when the Rector and Vestry may feel that a
"No Alcohol" policy should be substituted; therefore, this policy may
be suspended at the discretion of the Rector and Vestry.
General Principles on the use of
alcohol at St. Aidan's
-
Alcohol is
appropriate only at special church social events. At designated
congregational meetings, dinners and events, organizers may provide
beer, wine or champagne in the same manner that food is provided. No
alcoholic beverages other than beer, wine or champagne may be
brought on church property.
-
It is expected that
moderation in the consumption of alcoholic beverages will be
observed. Drunkenness is always an unacceptable behavior. Care
must be taken to ensure that responsible persons moderate the
availability of alcoholic beverages.
-
A moderate amount of
alcohol for an event should be pre-determined if possible and not
continuously supplied throughout the event. Serving of alcohol
should cease at a reasonable time before the end of the event.
-
St. Aidan's does not
assume responsibility for the safety of persons who become
intoxicated; however, the church will provide alternative
transportation upon request or if one's ability to drive appears to
be impaired.
-
The use of alcohol
at church sponsored activities for youth, on or off church property,
including private homes, is never permitted.
-
At no time will
alcohol be sold by any church group or any person or group using
church facilities.
-
Persons/Organizations using church premises or sponsoring an
activity or event on church property must receive permission from
the church to serve alcoholic beverages and must comply with the
General Principles as stated herein, and Requirements as stated
below.
Requirements when alcohol is present at
events
-
At the discretion of
the Rector and/or Vestry, a one-day events liability insurance
policy may be required.
-
The availability and
use of alcohol shall not be publicized as an attraction of any
event.
-
Whenever alcoholic
beverages are present, non-alcoholic alternatives must always be
offered with equal attractiveness and accessibility.
-
Alcoholic beverages
and food containing alcohol must be clearly labeled as such.
-
Food must always be
available when alcohol is present.
-
Applicable federal,
state and local laws pertaining to alcohol must be obeyed at all
times.
