Pine Straw Fundraiser Info for Parents and Scouts
Selling pine straw is really easy!
- Many people need pine straw for their lawns or gardens.
- Our price is good
- The straw is delivered, which is a great service for homeowners.
- You don’t have to deliver the straw…somebody else does!
Selling
- Be courteous when speaking with customers…remember that you are representing Pack 1459
- You may want to visit door-to-door, or leave order forms on mailboxes.
- Always go with a parent when selling straw!!
- Be sure to fill out the form completely:
- Your name, address, and phone number must be on the form
- Be sure to completely fill out the customer information
- Use the handy information on the back of the form to calculate the cost
- Checks should be made out to Pack 1459
- Tear off the order form keep the check with it
- The top part of the form stays with the customer so that they know when to expect delivery, and who to call in case they have questions.
What's in it for you??
- If each Cub Scout sells pine straw to just 6 houses, then we will earn nearly $5,000 for pack activities!!
- Every den that sells their quota will get $10 per scout in the den to spend on pizza, a visit to StarTime, or whatever you want to do!! (So a den of 10 boys would get $100.)
- The Cub Scout who sells the most pine straw will receive a $30 cash prize!!
Info for the Parent
- Class A “uniform” shirts cannot be worn to sell pine straw because this is not a council-sponsored fundraiser. Have them wear their Pack 1459 t-shirts instead.
- The order form will be available for download from the pack web site. We strongly encourage you to
get a copy and modify it for your use:
- Replace “A Local Cub Scout” with something like “FairFax Cub Scout John Smith” (if FairFax were your neighborhood). People like supporting Cub Scouts in their own neighborhood.
- Fill in the Cub Scout information on the form so your boy doesn’t have to.
- Make plenty of copies…be sure to copy front and back.
- Your Cub Scout can visit door-to-door or put copies on mailboxes. Make it easy for customers to return forms/money to you if you drop forms.
- Also consider approaching your homeowners association.
- Be sure your Cub Scout makes it clear to customers that the delivery window depends on the weather. If there has been much rain, then delivery will be delayed.
- The straw gets delivered from Woodstock, and they have a limited delivery area. Generally, that area covers North Cobb, Southeast Cherokee, Alpharetta, and Roswell. If you have a question about the delivery area, call the fundraiser coordinator and s/he should be able to find out.
- All forms and money must be turned in at the pack meeting on Saturday, February 5th at the Pinewood Derby
